AIR defends use of extreme emissions scenario in hurricane report

AIR has defended its use of a climate scenario that assumes little progress on emissions as the basis of its recent report forecasting major increases in US hurricane damage, which critics called “implausible”.

The modelling agency used the RPC 8.5 scenario developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which assumes little success in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
