Cat bonds paid out $668mn to sponsors in 2020, but the ILS market shrugged off high levels of payouts and maturities to rebound from the pandemic crisis and return to offering cedants pre-Covid rates, according to Swiss Re.

The broker-dealer forecast that “robust” levels of new issuance will be required to stabilise spreads as new investor capital has flowed into the market after Covid.
