‘Worst floods for 60 years’ force evacuation of 18,000 in NSW

About 18,000 people have been forced to evacuate parts of New South Wales (NSW), including the suburbs of Australia’s largest city, Sydney, with roads, bridge and houses damaged following flooding said to be the worst in the area for 60 years.

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has declared a catastrophe for large parts of NSW, which will “escalate and prioritise” the insurance industry’s response to impacted policyholders.
