The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (Twia) plans reinsurance and catastrophe bond coverage of $1.9bn for the 2021 hurricane season, with a further $1bn of cover possible.

The state-backed carrier secured reinsurance coverage of $2.1bn for the 2020 season, with an “extremely challenging reinsurance market” leading to costs overrunning the insurer’s initial budget.
