Allstate takes $544mn in April catastrophe losses

Allstate has said it will take an estimated $544mn of pre-tax catastrophe losses in April, down 14% year on year.

The insurer said the monthly losses comprised five events at an estimated cost of $490mn, as well as unfavourable prior-period reserve development.
