PartnerRe swings back to Q2 profit as third-party assets boosted capacity

PartnerRe’s non-life division swung back to profitability during the second quarter of 2021 with a $150mn non-life operating profit, ahead of the $260mn in operating losses it posted a year earlier.

The reinsurer’s combined ratio improved 32.7 points to 88.6% from 121.3% in the second quarter of 2020, after the company’s specialty segment posted a surge in underwriting gains.
