Everest Re became the latest carrier to report booming second quarter profits, as net investment income grew by almost tenfold and underwriting income jumped by more than 400% to $274mn.

Operating income climbed to $587mn in the quarter, from $83mn a year ago. It’s per-share operating earnings soared to $14.63,
