IPCC report points to more intense hurricanes in future: KCC

Hurricane activity is likely to feature more intense storms in future but there is still low confidence over whether overall levels of tropical cyclone activity are changing, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) sixth assessment report, Karen Clark & Company (KCC) has said in a briefing on the report.

KCC noted that, while the total number of hurricanes has not changed significantly, the global proportion of major hurricanes registering as Category 3-5 had increased over the past 40 years and that this trend was expected to continue.
