United projects $27mn in third-quarter cat losses

St Petersburg-based underwriter United Insurance said on Thursday that it anticipated third quarter pre-tax catastrophe losses of $27mn, inclusive of losses from Tropical Storm Elsa and Hurricane Ida.

The figure the company provided is net of reinsurance recoveries. United said in May that it had lowered its catastrophe reinsurance retention to $15mn for its first and second events, from roughly $46mn the year prior.
