Zurich may have triggered aggregate reinsurance: analysts

Zurich’s cat losses for the first nine months are around $1.5bn, suggesting a lower-than expected contribution from Bernd and Ida which implies the firm may have triggered its aggregate reinsurance coverage, according to analysts.

Zurich reported cat losses were running at 7% of net earned premiums of $21bn, which Berenberg analyst Michael Huttner said implied Bernd and Ida had added around $550mn to the mid-year reported figure to reach around $1.5bn.
