Reinsurance trapped capital below 5% at year end: Guy Carpenter

Guy Carpenter has estimated trapped ILS capital at less than 5% of overall dedicated reinsurance capital which, together with AM Best, it pegged at $534bn at year end 2021.

Total reinsurance capital was up 2.8% compared to year end 2020 but this does not reflect the decrease in available capital, due to trapped capital and funding obligations.
