Howden says risk 'reset' drives cat rates up 9% at 1.1

Strong capacity helped to cap reinsurance rate increases in the 1 January renewals, but faced with “pervasive change” a reset of the market drove rates up by the most since 2009, Howden estimated in its 1.1 renewal report.

Howden’s global property cat risk-adjusted rate-on-line index rose by 9%, taking the index back to pricing levels last recorded in 2014.
