Global insured losses hit $130bn in 2021, marking the fourth year in the last five that (re)insurers have paid out more than $100bn in any given year, according to Aon Catastrophe Insight.

Standout loss events from the year include Hurricane Ida, at $38bn of insured losses, the winter freeze in the US and Mexico in February, at $15bn of losses, and flooding in western and central Europe, at $13bn.
