Private fund advisers could face more litigation for simple negligence in cases where investors lose money if new rules proposed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) go ahead.

A suite of possible new regulations, issued by the SEC for consultation last week, also includes a requirement for registered advisers to obtain annual financial audits.
