Australia flood claims surge by 25% and ICA pegs losses at A$900mn

Insurers have received 60,163 claims relating to the devastating floods that have inundated south-east Queensland and New South Wales, with the current cost of claims estimated to be A$900mn ($654.5mn), according to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).

The number of claims is a 25% increase from yesterday, when the claims tally stood at 48,220.

Of the claims, 46,235 stem from Queensland, with the remaining 13,928 originating from New South Wales.
