Lloyd’s major loss burden came to £3bn in 2021, half the level recorded in 2020, as Hurricane Ida drove the bulk of claims.

This came as its property reinsurance and insurance segments returned to underwriting profit on a calendar-year if not accident-year basis, and the market overall delivered a £2.3bn
