The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has put tropical storm warnings in place for regions of central-south Florida as the first potential Atlantic tropical cyclone of the year is developing at a time when some carriers are still struggling to complete reinsurance programmes.

The storm system, which would be known as Alex, is expected to become a tropical storm later today (June 3).
