Will Axis Re’s wholesale withdrawal from property catastrophe risk in early June come to be seen as the “canary in the coalmine” moment, indicating that a true hard market is on the way for catastrophe reinsurers?

Certainly the 1 July renewals have confirmed that there has been a decisive step-change in the market – when even a broker report (and from Aon no less) admits that a hard market “may be fast approaching”, you know...
