Ian forecast to hit Florida west coast as ‘dangerous major hurricane’: NHC

Ian is now forecast to strike the west coast of Florida as a “dangerous major” hurricane, with storm surge warnings in nine coastal areas and a predicted 12 to 16 in of rain in some regions of the state.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its 08:00 EDT update that Ian is currently around 10 miles north-northeast of Cuba’s Pinar del Rio and moving north at 12 mph.
