Swing factors in Hurricane Ian’s ultimate loss will be determined by its landfall site, but the storm’s slow-moving pace means damage may be widespread, meteorologists said.

Hurricane Ian will cause more than $10bn in insured losses, which could be aggravated if the storm’s intensity at landfall exceeds current forecasts, according to BMS senior meteorologist Andrew Siffert.
