The ripple effects of Hurricane Ian will extend beyond Florida by adding pressure to existing drivers of rate rises and reinsurance capacity constraints, according to Swiss Re Institute.

In a note on the cat event, the (re)insurer reiterated the previously released estimate that insured losses of $50bn-$65bn from Ian could bring total insured cat losses for the year-to-date to $115bn, compared to a 10-year average of $81bn.
