Insurers expect to pay more than NZ$1bn ($621.5mn) in insurance claims for the Auckland Anniversary Weekend flood event, according to provisional data released by the Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ).

In total, around 48,000 claims have been lodged for the event to date.
