More than 40,000 claims have been made in relation to Cyclone Gabrielle worth NZ$890mn ($556.98mn), of which around NZ$70mn has been paid, according to the Insurance Council of New Zealand Te Kāhui Inihua o Aotearoa (ICNZ).

The cyclone struck in February and left more than 10,000 people displaced and over 140,000 homes without power, according to reports.
