Moody’s estimates $1bn insured loss from Maui fires

Moody’s has pegged the industry’s insured losses for wildfires in Lahaina in western Maui, Hawaii at around $1bn, with P&C carriers writing large shares of homeowners and commercial property in the frame.

The agency said that as of 11 August, various fires had destroyed or damaged 2,207 structures, with 2,719 structures exposed to the blazes.
