Hurricane Maria has strengthened to a category 4 hurricane and is forecast to approach the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico as an extremely dangerous category 4 or 5 hurricane.
The Hurricane had strengthened to a Hurricane 5 when it ploughed into Dominica at 21:15 Atlantic Standard Time with wind speeds of 160 mph (260 kph).
